Music
Music is a HUGE part of my life. I surround myself by it everyday. Below is an ever growing and changing list of artists I like, admire and just can’t stop listening too. And on this list there will be some artists that you disagree with me on..but when that happens..we will just have to agree to disagree.
I enjoy all different types of music, but I really love almost anything acoustic. It is very raw and real and I think it is a way for an artist (or band) to showcase their true talent. I had an acoustic radio show for three years and I was always looking for new and (usually) unsigned talent so I could play them and give the listeners something that they couldn’t hear everyday. That ultimately took me to myspace where I spent (and sometimes still do) countless hours looking for and listening to music.
I will try to put a little note about each one and maybe some songs you should check out but if the list begins to be too long (as I suspect it will be) then I might have to just have names. We shall see as time goes. If you haven’t heard of these bands or the songs…YouTube them!
The List..In Alphabetical Order for Convienence:
Dave Matthews Band: Does this band really NEED explanation? Didn’t think so.
Def Leppard: Classic
Five Times August: Sounds like a band but is a single guy who is amazingly talented.
Garbage: Great 90s grunge band!
Green to Think: Love their song Hold On..you should check it out too!
Hanson: Yes, they are still around. Ok, so they were a ‘boyband’ in the 90s and apparently no one is a fan of ‘boybands’ anymore…but regardless of that..these 3 brothers are amazing songwriters and musicians. Check out some of their new stuff. Youtube them!
Incubus: Amazing. Enough said.
Jamestown Story: I do not know too much about them except they are super good and are from Minneapolis MN. It might just be a single guy..not sure…but good music nonetheless.
John Cougar Mellencamp: It is JOHN COUGAR MELLENCAMP!
Journey: If you DON’T enjoy a SINGLE Journey song…I’d be worried
Julia Nunes: She plays the ukelele, guitar and melodica. I stumbled upon her youtube and was instantly impressed. Check her out here or here.
Julie Moffitt: Very good and talented Indie/Pop artist out of Chicago…her sound is original but not in the weird way..she has an amazing voice…not to mention she is incredibly nice and has a really sweet acoustic guitar. Some of my personal favorite songs are The Good Girl (it is about bondage..hehe) and Let Him Be.
Jon Troast: I really like his songs..especially The Most (the 2nd track off his album called “Second Story”)
Kutless: Yes it is a Christian Rock band..but they are really good and have put out some amazing music. Might I suggest the songs- “Smile”, “More than it Seems” and “Run”
Lifehouse: Many people hate on Lifehouse…I think they have some pretty good music. Yes, a LOT of it sounds the same..but it’s still good. LOVE the song “From where you are” and Jason Wade is pretty nice to look at.
Making April: They have an alternative rock sound. You might recognize them from the 3rd season of Laugna Beach.
Marie Digby: She is super good! Love her sound.
Marilyn Manson: Ok, ok, so they guy is a little weird..but he has put out some good music. A personal favorite is “Heart-Shaped Glasses.” YouTube it..AND watch the video..it’s pretty hot.
Martha Berner: I was introduced to her music while working at a underground alternative radio station and a friend of mine had me listen to her music…it is AMAZING..and she is also SUPER nice…anything off her cd titled “this side of yesterday” is worth a listen…I haven’t heard too many songs off her new album..but that is good too, from what I hear
Meatloaf: He has a song that is hella long..yet NO ONE minds listening to it AND singing along. This makes him worthy of my list.
Michael Jackson: King of Pop! He might have made some bad decisions..but that doesn’t make him a bad musician.
Neil Diamond: Sweet Caroline! C’mon now!
Oasis: The music speaks for itself.
One Night Only: This is an English band who a friend of mine introduced me too…I suggest the song “Just for Tonight”
Pat McCurdy: Witty folk singer with many catchy songs.
Pete Doherty: We all know he has a not so secret drug problem…but have you ever listened to his music? This guy is a genius! Pete has put out amazing music. You can YouTube his name and find a TON of stuff. Make sure to also listen to some songs by his bands Baby Shambles and The Libertines. I would suggest particular songs…but I would be here all night. His music is THAT good.
Rookie of the Year: From North Carolina, they have a Pop/Rock sound.
Styx: I will quote Adam Sandler’s character Sonny from Big Daddy, “Styx is the greatest American rock band ever,” or something like that. Anyways..they are awesome…see them in concert..they are even better!
Sunspot: A band from Wisconsin and a hell of a good time.
The Scene Aesthetic: These are some good looking boys with an amazing sound. They are number 1 on myspace’s top unsigned acoustic artists (I say this..because not too long ago Colbie Caillat was #1..look at her now!)
